Using FeedBurner To Power Your Blog
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
There’s one thing that irks me when I visit a blog, and that is when there is no valid RSS feed link that I can subscribe to. This blog uses FeedBurner to generate its main RSS Feed, offer automatic subscriptions for many popular feedreaders and provide the FeedBlitz subscription form. Best part of all, it’s very user friendly!
Before I headed off to FeedBurner though, I installed the WordPress FeedBurner Plugin, which is a terrific RSS Feed Autodiscovery tool (for use in browsers that recognize RSS feeds - ie FireFox) and then headed over to FeedBurner.com to set up my feed.
Getting started is extremely easy -
1. Activate and setup your FeedBurner Plugin - this will generate a random url that you’ll be using when you burn your feed at Feedburner.com.
2. Head over to www.FeedBurner.com and create an account if you don’t already have one.
3. Once your account is created, simply enter the URL that your plugin generated for you, and name your feed.
Feedburner has a ton of options that will help you optimize, monetize and traffic-ize your feed. Walk through each option, and don’t feel that you need absolutely everything that Feedburner has to offer.
Providing users a way to subscribe to your feed via email is one cool option they have available, which is through FeedBlitz.
FeedBurner also provides you with statistics on who is subscribing to your feeds, and more importantly, HOW they are subscribing.
Don’t forget to add Chiklets to your blog - providing easy ways for users to subscribe to your feeds is definately one of the most important things you can do!
