Time is running very short for 2006, and as I’m heading out of town again tomorrow and simply don’t have the energy in my to create my last few posts in advance, you will hopefully be seeing tool #’s 8, 9 & 10 on Sunday & Monday

So let’s get on with the show for tonight… this terrific tool is yet another freebie!

Zencart

Zencart is one of the most versatile shopping cart systems that I have ever used. It’s very easy to install, either via Fantastico for cPanel users, or by manual ftp upload.

I do have to be totally honest with you here, most of the debate you will find online will be between osCommerce and Zencart. I’ve tried them both. I never had any luck at all in getting osCommerce up and running, while Zen took a little bit of time to figure out, I’m now installing it and customizing it for fellow WAHM’s.

There are many similiarities between the two carts, and rightly so as Zencart was originally based on osCommerce, however in recent months Zencart has been re-introduced with a terrific new templating system which can allow you to create a shopping cart with the same look and feel as your html website.

One of my infamous little tricks is to download a template and then customize that to have the same look as the website I’m working on. It’s also possible to use Zencart as your entire website which is very handy as well.

Here is just a small sampling of the feature list:

• multiple language support
• multiple tax support
• multiple shipping methods
• multiple currency support
• multiple payment methods
• unlimited category depth
• physical merchandise
• downloadable virtual products
• products can reside in multiple categories
• product options as dropdowns, radio buttons, checkboxes, and text input
• individual special prices
• global sale reductions
• category-wide sale prices
• discount coupons
• customer group discounts
• quantity discounts
• one-time charges
• minimum and maximum purchases per product
• prices by attributes
• and so much more…

The store at Wahms United was the first installation I completed, and yes.. I did things the wrong way lol. In early 2007 I’ll be spending some time fixing WU, and adding in a lot more products and services, including Zencart installation & customization services.
