Working on the Thirty Day Challenge has confirmed my suspicions – coming up with good niches is not my forte lol.
Today is technically Day 9 in the challenge – now you may wonder where the heck the rest of the days have gone, so here’s a quick update on everything:
Day 1:
- Market Research
- Traffic
- Conversion
- Product
Day 2
- The Getting Of Ideas – Market research, not product research!
- Don’t choose the mega markets
Day 3
- Using Wordtracker’s Free Keyword Tool
- Google competition analysis – competition is GOOD!
- sponsored links are GOOD
- look for real people selling real things
- RESERVE JUDGEMENT
Days 4 & 5
Catch Up
Day 6
- Using You-Tube
- Tag, Stumble, Digg, Twitter
- More market research – notice affiliate programs – people making money selling products
- Look at the paid ads
- Run your 7 niches through google again and note down specific affiliate programs
- Learning about Google Trends (check out Mike Mindel’s blog here)
Day 7
Judgment Day
- Find an Umbrella Phrase: An umbrella phrase is a keyword phrase that has an acceptable amount of
competition. An acceptable amount of competition is probably a keyword
with below 25,000 – 30,000 competing pages phrase matched & an
acceptable amount of traffic (80+ daily searches). - Broad Match vs Phrase Match
Day 8
Let The Judgement Continue
- Continuing to work on our umbrella phrase research – when one phrase fails, move on to the next.
Ok …. much of this probably won’t mean very much to you but what it means right now to me is that considering how many niches I’ve researched, I’ve just saved myself a ton of time as 99% of them failed the Wordtracker/Google/Google Trends testing that I’ve been running them through.
I’ve been struggling with the even coming up with a list of niches to run through the test (insane, I know lol) which is why I haven’t been updating here daily. So in the next few days I’ll be posting more details about my recent discoveries :)

I look forward to reading more about your discoveries!
I’m doing the challenge too. It’s teaching me many things. Right now it’s teaching me how far behind I can get when I go away for a week. LOL
I look forward to reading more about your journey also :)

Great info! You should put it all in a ebook and sell it!
