I am absolutely floored about just how much time has gone by since my last post on this blog… it’s absolutely shameful :(
I have been keeping busy though… on another project that kind of landed in my lap at the beginning of December – a project that puts me into my dream market (music), and with a bunch of awesome guys and gals.. from tribute to indie bands, and I am soooo loving it!
Back on December 6th, my best friend (my sister – since I was 10 anyway) and I went to a bar to see a KISS tribute band – the longest running Canadian KISS tribute band – Destroyer. My friend Kim has known them for several years but I hadn’t seen them since 2000. These guys have played to crowds the size of the Calgary Stampede (literally – in 2007 they were there!) Now, I’ve probably mentioned on here before that my all time favorite band is KISS lol, so going to see a great tribute band for us is the 2nd best thing to seeing the “real” KISS.
I was absolutely floored by Destroyer’s website though… it was totally 80’s with animated gifs and cheesy graphics, there was no rhyme or reason to what little of a navigation system there was… bottom line was the site was really, really bad. I’m not trying to knock the designer who had been taking care of their site for 7 years… but I knew I could do better and give Destroyer the web presence they deserve to have.
So, I mentioned my plan to Kim and things really took off right from the get-go. Within minutes, I literally had their new domain name and had WordPress installed on it. Keep in mind that the band had no clue we were doing this for them… until their drummer contacted me on MSN about another subject, and we got talking about their site. So, I brought him in on the secret project as I needed information, and he was absolutely floored. He couldn’t believe what we were doing for them.
Since then, the entire band has been told about their new site, and they were all astonished with what we’ve done for them – which is so great. Here’s one reaction:
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry, speechless right now. Let me soak this all in and I’ll be back when I peel myself off the ceiling. AWESOME JOB!!!!!!
But, we’ve decided not to stop there – heck what fun would that be right? lol. Instead, we will be creating their Press Kit, and working on bookings for them too… and not just Destroyer either. We’ve already been in touch with several other bands, and will be meeting with at least two of them in the coming weeks to discuss what we can do for them.
In fact, we have a mission happening on Facebook right now to bring CRUED, a Motley Crue tribute band to London, Ontario. A bar there doesn’t think that Motley Crue has the following in London to pack the house, and we’re going to prove them wrong. I’m getting way off base here…
With all this excitement happening, and the holidays thrown in for good measure, I really had to make a choice as to which way to turn… and I felt at the time that I had to follow my dream of working in the music industry in some form or fashion, though I’m not about to give up Wahm Cafe just yet :)))
For now, I just want to ensure everyone that I’m still here, and still loving being able to work from home – just now I’ll be out more on weekends doing “research” .. ok, so I’ll be partying at bars and other music venues while working – talk about a great job LOL!
