I Need Some Help With This WordPress Theme

Tagged Under : , , ,

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

I’m hoping that someone in my blogosphere can assist me with some changes to this blog theme.  It’s the sidebar especially..

What I’d like to do is to have a 1 column sidebar underneath the 2 column sidebar - preferably widget ready.  I’ve been playing around with the sidebar.php but so far nothing I’ve done has put an additional sidebar underneath.  It ends up outside the theme on the right side.  I’m figuring it’s a div thing, but so far I’m stuck as to get it working the way I’d like.

So, if there are any themers out there that would be so kind as to help me out, I’d love to hear from you!

In the meantime, during my dropping today, I came across a fabulous site that has terrific tutorials on creating your own WordPress theme.  Check out CK Marketing’s tutorials.   I haven’t attempted to create my own WP theme yet, though I may just give it a go and see what I can come up with :)  Perhaps after going through it and getting more familiar with the layouts I can figure out how to modify my Wahm Cafe theme to do what I want.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend!

How Do You Keep Up With All Your Social Networking Sites?

Tagged Under : , , , , , , , , , , , ,

I’m having a slight problem here… I believe I’m a tad overwhelmed with everything I’ve got on the go, and trying to figure out how to make it all work together. Social networking is the coolest concept since the TV was invented, but much like trying to figure out how to watch 5 different shows that are all on during the same time slot (ok.. now we have PVR and TIVO lol), social networking can creep right on in there and attempt to take over your life.

Here’s my current networking list:

Twitter http://www.twitter.com/diannef
Facebook http://profile.to/diannef/
You Tube Logo http://www.youtube.com/user/DianneFratscher
Entrecard Logo http://entrecard.com/details/41365
Digg Logo http://digg.com/users/wahmdianne
FriendFeed logo http://friendfeed.com/diannef
Stumbleupon logo http://diannef.stumbleupon.com/
Blog Catalog Logo http://www.blogcatalog.com/user/Diannef
MyBlogLog logo http://www.mybloglog.com/buzz/members/Diannef/
Qassia http://diannef.qassia.com/
Technorati http://www.technorati.com/people/technorati/wahmsunited

I’m sure there are more too… Qassia for example is one that I just joined on a recommendation from Angie, my partner over at Frugal Wahms Talk Radio, so I still have to start actively participate in that one.

Whenever I make a new blog post, it automatically gets posted to Twitter, and as I have my Twitter account set up in Friend Feed, it also updates Friend Feed killing two birds with one stone. Blog posts are also updated on my Entrecard profile, Blog Catalog and My Blog Log, in addition to both Twitter posts and blog posts being updated on my Facebook account.

My Stumbles will also be updated on my Facebook account, as well as Friend Feed, and I can submit them as content to Qassia (when I get it all figured out lol). Then of course there’s Digg - my account there is brand new so I haven’t dugg anything yet, or had anything dugg that I know of but I am working on adding over 300 friends from Entrecard (confusing huh?!)

I think what I need to do is while I’m dropping, I have to take a look at the first few blog posts and if I enjoy them, I need to give it a thumbs up on stumble, and digg it before I leave the site. I always try to read through the posts anyway, but until now haven’t paid much attention to the aspects of any other social networking sites. The key is to make them all work together with as little effort as possible.

I’m looking forward to next week’s 30 Day Challenge pre-season lessons when Ed will be teaching us more about Friend Feed. He’s mentioned it a few times the last few weeks but will go in depth next week.

Anyway, I guess my biggest thing is getting the time management aspect of everything under control so that I’m doing something constructive with my time. Any tips? Am I missing any social networking sites from my list?

Display Other RSS Feeds On Your Website Or Blog

Tagged Under : , , , , , , , , , ,

Do you have more than one website or blog that you’d like to cross promote? Or perhaps one of your colleagues has an absolutely fantastic blog, and you would like to put some of their content on your own site. There is now a truly fantastic (and easy) way to do just that - actually, there are a few ways, depending on what your blog is made of.

Feevy -

feevy is a dynamic blogroll that you can put on your blog - or on any website - by adding a simple html tag to your webpage.

  • Show the latest posts from your favorite blogs in one column
  • Put them in order according to the latest updates, which will appear on top.

With feevy, you can replace static, boring blogrolls with
dynamic content and transform your blog into a web portal for your
network of friends.

Moreover, you can have as many feevys
as you wish and use them to make web portals for your group of friends
or for your favorite network. Organize the contents in columns, make a
feevy for each one, and that’s it… feevy takes care of keeping it
permanently updated and you don’t need to do anything.

I personally think that feevy’s suggested uses are fantastic, and I certainly intend to play around with the idea of a portal highlighting my friends :)

Simple Pie Plugin For WordPress

This plugin has just about everything you’d need for working with feeds in WordPress, and has a TON of features including:

  • A configuration pane under the Options tab in the WordPress software.
  • “Multifeeds” support.
  • MUCH better control over the plugin’s output. Supports a simple templating system that allows:
  • Simple, easy-to-use tags for nearly every piece of data that SimplePie can output.
    Support for multiple templates.
Global configuration of default values for several configuration options.
Ability to override the defaults for any given feed – including giving a feed it’s own output template.

  • Ability to post-process feed data (e.g. stripping out all content except for images).
  • No need to manually set up cache folders.
  • Support for internationalized domain names.
  • Support for short descriptions is configurable.
  • And more!

Simple, easy-to-use tags for nearly every piece of data that SimplePie can output.

This plugin is one that I can attest to. You can see it in use in my sidebar (the Frugal Wahms Talk Radio feed) and if you click on the Wahm Reviews page link, this again makes use of Simple Pie.

I should also note that Simple Pie is not just for WordPress - for more integrations visit the Simple Pie Wiki and discover all the plugins available. For example you can add Simple Pie to Joomla, Drupal, even Facebook, or how about a news aggregator for your mobile device. Very cool indeed!

Entrecard Fever

Advertise for free with EntrecardIt was approximately 2 weeks ago when I finally clicked on one of those Entrecard links on a blog out of pure curiosity.  I was starting to see these weird ‘Drop’ links on blogs all over the place, and wanted to know what the heck I was missing.

Turns out, I was missing out on a fun, hugely addictive opportunity to make new friends and spread the word about Wahm Cafe.  Yep.. I’ll take free advertising any day!  So, I jumped (quickly) aboard the Entrecard bandwagon.

Basically, you sign up for a free account and add an Entrecard widget on to your blog (preferably in a prominent position), and other passing members can “drop” their card on you. Every time someone drops a card on you, you earn one credit, and every time you drop your card on someone else, you also a credit. Your Entrecard dashboard will show you who has dropped their cards on you, so that you can also reciprocate.

The whole point of this system is the free advertising you can get out of it. A 125×125 card ad is displayed in the widget, and you buy an ad on someone else’s blog using the credits that you gather. Each time you buy an ad on someone else’s page, your ad is displayed in their widget for 24 hours. You may receive requests from irrelevant blogs looking to advertise, but you have full control over which advertisers you accept and reject.

Using Entrecard is a terrific way to obtain free advertising on blogs that you otherwise may not be able to afford, or haven’t even discovered yet. I’ve traded my credits in for advertising on relevant
blogs that I’d never seen before, until browsing through the categories in Entrecard. There are literally thousands of opportunities just waiting for you.
Choose from Categories such as: Business, Marketing, Blogging Resources, Parenting & Family, Womens Interests, Cooking & Dining, Make Money Online, Graphic Design and a whole lot more.

Some of Entrecard’s newest features include:

  • The ability to add more than one blog to your account:  This is really easy to do via your Dashboard - just click on “Linked Blogs” and add all of your blogs in one convenient spot.
You can switch from one blog to another, and drop or advertise as
either one, from the very top right of your Entrecard screen. Where
your email address is displayed there will be a link to “switch” to
another account of yours.
  • Campaign Page Tabs:  Quickly and conveniently find the most popular, newest, and cheapest Entrecard members.  You can also check out the Random search, or search for specific sites.

  • Top Droppers RSS Feed:  This is cool!  On your Statistics page you’ll find the RSS feed to those ‘Droppers’ who have dropped their cards on you the most.  This is a really handy feed to have.

Ad don’t forget to download your FREE copy of the Entrecard Official E-Book!  Don’t get lost when you first join Entrecard - this free pdf download tells you what to do and how to do it.  It’s an awesome resource and will help you get started Dropping the easy way :)
